+ a moderate amount of boost (10psi or less)/cylinder pressure is healthy practice to aide in seating the rings.

4,000+miles on my motor since January,2012, compression test shows high compression #'s, and zero measurable differences on the gauge from cylinder to cylinder.

I am very pleased with the equal #'s on all 6. My previous motor was softly broken in, and my compression numbers were much lower across the board, and had 2psi variances on average. :(

Hard break-in practices is the way to go despite modern tolerances IMHO (if you use moderation and good sense).

Here is a pic of my compression #'s after just 1500 hard break-in miles, all 6 read the same perfectly:
